Finding a web host is not the easiest thing. But I’m going to share with you my experiences with a few good and bad ones, in my personal opinion.
Free Web hosting is the way to go if you are just trying to “get your feet wet” then I would suggest free webhosting. But be careful of who you host with. And remember this: you get what you pay for. Free services are not recommended if you are planning on building a website, and driving traffic to it. Oftentimes, free web hosts restrict alot of special, beneficial features that you will need to fun your website.
But, on the other hand, if you are just playing the field, its a great way to get familiar with control panels, email accounts, and also file managers
There are a few webhosts that will let you use the best of the best control panels [in my opinion] Cpanel X. With cpanelx you can control everything. from emails, webstats, security, domains, and addon software. which brings me to the next thing: addon software, like a freebie. makes life sooooo much easier. fantastico script installer comes with a bunch of good scripts! From uh…photo galleries, billing systems, faq systems, templates/layouts for your site, um..what else..? uh, ohh! message boards, like phpbb. Very good stuff. **
**Some coding know-ho might be needed to customize some of these. But its very easy to get the basic hang of them, with or without techy skills.
sooooo you’ve gotten your feet wet, and your ready to go swimming, eh!? lol, well thats good. Because here is one of the best things you WONT have to worry about [as often] with a paid web host:
sever uptime. When you are paying for your service, they normally tend to have greater uptime on their server. That doesnt mean that you won’t have the occasional downtime.
I think this is a big deal. I mean if I’m going to a website, and its always down, why would I go back? Would you? Exactly!
So, with all that said, here’s who’s who’s and what’s what.
<a href=" – 000webhost is a VERY good FREE webhost, i'll admit. Although I didnt have the best experience with them, it was my fault. MAKE SURE YOU READ THEIR TERMS OF SERVICE. They will not hesitate to delete your website without notice like they did to me.
**important tip** SAVE / BACKUP ALL YOUR FILES AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK. it was a classic newbie mistake that I wish I would have done. My whole website was deleted because I broke the T.O.S [unintentionally, I swear!]
<a href=" - I went to Freehostia next. They were okay, but not as good as 000webhost if you ask me. They didnt have cpanelx, they just offered a simple user control panel. very basic. like is said: get what you pay for! It was free, and a reputatble website. OH yea thats another thing, you should read a few reviews of your site–free or not–just to see what others have had to say. how is their customer service, how is their server uptime? their plans? etc.
Anyways, freehostia was okay, but then my website just stopped working one day. idk why. it just wouldnt load. to this day I still dont know why. Granted, I should have followed up on it and opened a ticket in the support thingy, but I didnt because I decided that I was through with free web hosting. So I began my hunt for a good webhost.
you have to have an idea about what you want before you go looking, or else, how do you know what you’re looking for!? Lol. SOOO, my budget was no more then about $15 a month. Which is considered cheap, since some plans are about $50 a month! But remember, you get what you pay for!
So..
budget: $15
plan goodies: cpanelx [i love it, and had to have it.]
payment method: paypal. I really hate using my card online. I would rather keep my info private and use paypal instead!
and I had to have the option to pay monthly. Most plans will make you prepay for 12, 24, or 36 months at a time.
So this all sounded pretty picky for someone who wanted it for $15 or less a month right!? Your right. It was dang near impossible to find.
but I did!
<a href=" is by far one of the best I have come across. Even worthy to compete with the big guys like hostgator, and bluehost if you ask me. But I'm definitely getting the bang for my buck. The server has been down once since I've been with them. I simply went to the forums and told them about it, and my website was back up within the hour!
If you don't mind spending <a href=" little as $7 per month, then surpass hosting is the way to go, I definitely recommend them to anyone and everyone! Woo! =]
